The growing demand for high-quality wine in the European communities based in Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, explains the commercialization of Spanish, French, and Portuguese wines. Bordeaux wine was highly appreciated and, consequently, was distributed through various routes. In this case, it seems that it was traded across the Indian Ocean, mediated by Muslim merchants.
