The New South Wales Professional Golfers' Association Provident Fund was established in 1948 to provide a form of superannuation for retiring members. Money was raised from donations, contributions, fundraising events, and tournament prize money. Members could take between 1 and 20 units in the fund, and clubs were encouraged to subsidise contributions. Membership was transferable should a member take up employment at a different golf club. Though it was a successful enterprise, the fund wound up in 1966. As it was limited to NSW club professionals only, tournament professionals argued that it was unfair that tournament prize money was being used for a scheme they were not eligible to join. These medallions were given to competitors on fundraising days.
