Hungarian-born Schonbauer (Schoenbauer), who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest and in Munich, immigrated to the United States, settling in New York City. The artist exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts from the 1930s through the 1950s and was known for his figurative bronzes in the Art Deco style, such as this example.
