Nuihaku is a costume worn by female roles in Noh plays. The main feature of the nuihaku is its shiny appearance, produced by using refined, raw silk. The term ‘nuihaku’ derives from two textile techniques: ‘nui’ (embroidery) and ‘haku’ (application of metallic leaf).
This nuihaku robe is decorated with an embroidery pattern of wisteria over the gold leaf designs of pines and bamboo fences.
