Karena says: "As an artist I felt the need to pay tribute to frontline workers in hospitals during lockdown. I started making my Heroes in Stitches mid March and currently have up to forty textile portraits on the go. They are all stitched onto old uniforms and tunics that have been kindly donated by people all over Ireland. Nurses from Ireland, the UK , Italy and America have sent me images of themselves in PPE . Leah is from my hometown in Ireland and is working in Luton Dunstable hospital."
Leah says: "I think it is amazing! love the colours and textures and I am honoured that I am a textile work of art. It has been exciting seeing the process come to life as Karena has sent me photos of the work in progress."
