Nxuoka Qham: All smiles

The headbands worn by the San are generally made of ostrich eggshell beads or glass beads and are as wide as the owner could afford – signifying a status symbol. More common are the small beaded tags or medallions which could be tied into the hair -usually just a few, though some wear a dozen or more in their hair.
