Musica Brasilis
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Score of Ó Abre Alas, there was no edition during the life of the composer. Created for the Cordão Rosa de Ouro in Andaraí, a neighborhood in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, where Chiquinha lived, the unpretentious marchinha was inspired by the progress of the cordon, which we know how to use the religious procession as a matrix. The marchinha was born there, in February of 1899, a new genre that still would render great services to the carioca carnival. Until then, the party that would come to represent Brazilian nationality had no music of its own. With this she anticipated in 18 years, since only after 1917 the carnival would happen to have music regularly. Chiquinha included her in the piece of manners of Cariocas, Não venhas!..., so the manuscript was named as 'dobrado carnavalesco'.
