Raymundo de Macedo began his musical studies with Augusto Loureiro and Teresa Amaral in Oporto. In 1903, he entered the Leipzig Conservatory, where he deepened his piano studies with Adolf Ruthardt, Han Sitt and Arthur Nikisch. In 1905, Raymundo de Macedo concluded his studies at the Leipzig Conservatory and in 1907 he started a digression through several cities in Germany, Brazil, Argentina and Portugal, where he performed a cycle of concerts, where, according to the critics of that time, he revealed himself as a notable interpreter of Chopin and Liszt. On returning to Porto, he founded in 1910 the Society of Symphonic Concerts and the Chamber Music Society. In addition to the activity of concertista and conductor, Raymundo de Macedo must also be highlighted, as one of the great promoters of the foundation of the Conservatory of Music of Porto. In 1911, he met in the Bechstein Hall a series of Portuguese intellectuals, among them Bernardo Moreira de Sá, who presided over the session, formulated the suggestion of Raymundo de Macedo, to go to Lisbon to present the project to the deputies for Porto and government. "(Cabral, Luís: 2007) It should be noted that in 1916 Raymundo de Macedo again elaborates a project to found a conservatory, which he presents to the Porto City Hall. However, it was not until 1917, at the initiative of Eduardo Santos Silva, Mayor, that the Conservatory of Music of Porto was established in a City Hall session on June 1 of that same year. At that session, Bernardo Moreira de Sá was appointed director and Ernesto Maia was the deputy director. Raymundo de Macedo was invited to join the first faculty as a piano teacher.
