Künstler Informationen: Jacob Ruisdael was a Dutch landscape painter and etcher. He studied under his father Isaak van Ruisdael and his uncle Salomon van Ruisdael, themselves both landscape painters. Despite being admitted as a member to the Guild of Saint Luke in Haarlem in 1648, his works found little favour, resulting in him suffering from poverty during his lifetime. His favourite themes are woodland scenes and he is best known as a painter of trees. His view on distant cities indicates the influence of Rembrandt. Popular paintings by him include 'The Great Oak' (1652) or 'Bentheim Castle' (1653).
