About the craft: The MTDC Palghar Lok Itihas Sangrahalaya in Gholwad, Palghar district, is an initiative of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) that marks a significant step toward safeguarding living heritage and promoting community-led heritage preservation. Housed within the historic Gholwad Marathi School, a 19th-century institution, the museum brings together Warli art, bamboo craft, Bohada masks, the tarpa instrument, folk traditions, and local Parsi heritage.The collection also includes everyday objects contributed by community members, reflecting shared memory and local knowledge. Developed through collaboration among local administration, artists, and residents, the museum is shaped by active community participation in its planning, restoration, and curation. It remains open to visitors as a space for learning and engagement with the region’s cultural practices.
