At the end of the 17th century, the French Jesuit Francois Noël (1651-1729) was on his missions in Southeast Asia. There he observed and plotted the constellations of the southern sky, a view of the heavens completely unknown to the Europeans. After his return, Noël lectured at the University of Prague and published his observations there.
