Octavio Paz

A portrait of Mexican writer Octavio Paz in a background of a room in red and purple, two paintings (a black one and another in white), and a skull in white, blue, black, green and ocher.
The serigraphy is portrait of Octavio Paz (1914-1918) mexican writer Nobel Prize of Literature 1990 and close friend of Alberto Gironella. This serigraphy is a reproduction of his painting from 1983 originally commissionated by the Spanish government, but due to paymaent he finally sold it to a friend. The serigraphy only reproduce the upper part of the painting.
All the the elements in the portrait are related to Paz: the jam that hangs from the ceiling is a reference to a poet that Paz and Gironella like to read Pierre Reverdy and the anise bottle "El Mono" is part of a pun about Paz essay "El mono gramático" (1974). There are other less encrypted references like the cover page of "Las trampas de la fe" (1982).
