It was Christian Krohg's Norwegian friend and colleague, Frits Thaulow, who talked him into visiting Skagen in 1879, and he returned several times in the course of the 1880's. His last visit to Skagen was in 1894, as a correspondent for the Danish national newspaper Politiken. His stays in Skagen were to become significant for Krohg, but he in turn also influenced some of the other artists, including Anna Ancher. The bright and luminous colouring shows how Krohg inspired by Impressionism worked more independently with the colours.
