Miao Chongan, an important painter of Chang'an School of Painting, was born in Yuncheng, Shanxi Province in 1938. He graduated from Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts in 1960 and stayed at the school as a teacher and studied under He Tianjian for landscape painting. In 1980, he was in charge of the establishment of the Shaanxi Academy of Traditional Chinese Painting. He is currently the president of the Shaanxi Academy of Traditional Chinese Painting, the executive director of the Shaanxi Association of Fine Arts, the member of the Academy of State Painting Academy of China, and the director of the Chinese Artists Association. He is national-level artist and expert with outstanding contributions. He has worked for Beijing Railway Station and Tian'anmen Gate in the works of Xuanyuanbai and Qunfeng Competition Show. His representative works include Dawn of Longyangxia, Ancient Bai of Huangling, Spring Back to the Plateau, Scenery of the North Country, and Wanli Xing of the Yellow River. His publications include Selected Works of Miao Chong'an, Tsinghua of Chuanbian, Thousands of Miles of the Yellow River, Pictures of the Yellow River and Miao Chong'an Pictures.
