Official Correspondence

Panopolis II is a long series of orders issued to the Strategus, an important official in the ancient Greek world, to supply money or provisions to a wide variety of military units scattered throughout the Thebaid (a region in Upper Egypt). It is suggested that they were occasioned by some great emergency, and were certainly not part of any normal procedure.
