This is a decorative winter headgear for children aged from one to five. Three silk bands or more are crossed to form the hat part, and a flower-shaped knot is tied at the top of the hat, while a wide band is hung from the back. The parts surrounding the face and the baseline of the hat part are dyed navy for boys and violet for girls. Fine gauze is used for hats worn in spring, summer, and fall, and cotton-stuffed silk in winter. At the back of the headgear shown here, phrases are embroidered in Chinese, including "壽福康寧", meaning blessings, good health, and longevity, and "富貴多男子," signifying wealth and many sons.
