Oil Tank Wagon for Standard Oil Company

As gasoline and oil became commodities that consumers demanded, tanker wagons were constructed to haul these products to the buyers. A steel tank was mounted on a frame and gear to be pulled by horses. The tank is divided into three sections for holding different products and rests on channel irons which form a cradle for it. The right shelf advertises Red Crown Gasoline of Quality, while the left shelf board advertises Zerolene, “The Standard Motor Oil for Motor Cars”. It is ironic that this latest of wagons to be put into use conveyed the very products that were to spell doom for the animals that pulled it. Because motorized vehicles soon followed in the place of this vehicle, there are few examples of this particular type of wagon.
