The J. Paul Getty Museum
Los Angeles, United States

A small oinochoe of blown, blue-green glass. The body is squat and spherical and the neck widens to terminate in a rim folded over the inside edge. An elegantly arched handle connects the shoulder to the top of the rim with a fold just above the rim to provide a finger grip. The body is decorated with four snake threads of blue-green glass arranged in undulating patterns and applied to the vessel. Three of these threads run from the bottom of the vessel to the shoulder and one rests on the shoulder, encircling the neck. Weathering has caused white and brown discoloration and iridescence, primarily on the interior.
