Jean Arp was a painter, sculptor, poet, a founder member of Dada and a friend of Kurt Schwitters. His abstract reliefs and paper cut-outs evolved into sensuous, biomorphic forms that brought him to surrealism and automatism. He was a founder member of Abstraction-Creation in 1931, creating sculptures in the round through whose organic forms he made manifest his dictum that art is Ôa fruit that grows in manÕ.
