The Okapi is a short-necked giraffe that lives in areas of dense rainforest, which earned it the alternate name “forest giraffe.” Despite its large size, the reclusive animal was only discovered in 1901 in the Congo region. Unlike the steppe giraffes, Okapis are usually solitary and repeatedly use the same well-trodden jungle paths when foraging for vegetation.
