Postman Cheval poses for the postcard with close friends playing the role of visitors. His wife Philomène is at the top, among the Barbary fig trees and aloes, where the Barbary Tower stands. At the time, a reservoir supplied water to the palace and its fountain named La Source de Vie. Only a few visitors from that period had the chance to enjoy this spectacle. The water damaged the building too much so the system had to be sealed off.
