In 1896, Postman Cheval decided to have his house built next to the Ideal Palace, work having already begun on the site 17 years earlier. The house was named La Villa Alicius as a tribute to his daughter Alice who died two years earlier at the age of 15. Here, he is accompanied by his wife Philomène, his son Cyrille (from his previous marriage), and his daughter-in-law Louise at the window.
