In the first half of the 1960s, the editing of compiled material on tapes was primarily undertaken on Jansen studio tape recorders, as documented by this picture of actor Oldřich Nový and tech-nician Anna Suchánková. It was a proven device of East German production dating from the 1950s that, however, soon ceased to be able to keep up with the newer Western equipment in terms of user comfort and reliability. The newer equipment better satisfied new demands for stereophonic recording. Therefore, in the mid-1960, the Jansen machines were phased out and replaced with Swiss Studer machines.
