Judith Perrey was born in 1927 in Hawthorn, Victoria, Australia. She was enthusiastic and talented about her drawing from an early age. After attending Bradshaws Business College in 1940–2, she studied at the National Gallery of Victoria Art School 1943–7. Her awards during that time including The Bernard Hall Prize, The Grace Joel Scholarship, The Hugh Ramsay Prize, culminating in the award of runner-up in the 1947 NGV Travelling Scholarship with her painting, The Toy Makers. She enjoyed a career as a commercial artist, doing fine line illustrations, cartoons and drawings. Perrey was a Fellow of the Victorian Artists Society; Life Member of the Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors Society; Life Member of the Waverley Arts Society and Member of the Twenty Melbourne Painters’ Society. Judith passed in 2016 at the age of 89. Her children, Peter and Jennifer, mounted a major retrospective of her life's work at the Victorian Artists' Society in 2021.
