Environmental activism and artistic invention are inseparable in García Uriburu’s work. In 1968 at the Venice Biennale, he dyed the Grand Canal fluorescent green and continued this project in city waters around the world including New York, Paris, Buenos Aires, Nice and Antwerp. An innovator of “land art,” his efforts in community work are equally influential through organizing protests, coordinating tree-planting missions and teaching secondary school.
