In the spring of 2020 the pandemic-induced shutdown brought sudden change to organizations and communities across the globe. Karamu reimagined its programming and embraced its role as a leader in the artistic response to 2020’s civil unrest and continuing racism against Black Americans.
Theatres across the globe quickly faced a new reality- the inability to gain licenses to produce virtual productions of most published plays. In June 2020, Karamu presented “Freedom On Juneteenth,” an original theatrical production and Karamu’s first virtual presentation.
