Dong Xiwen , born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province. 1933 admitted to Suzhou College of Fine Arts. 1943 went to National Dunhuang Art Research Institute to study and facsimile the murals. Assisted Chang Shuhong in Dunhuang. 1946 taught in National Beiping Art College. Leader of the drafting group of the embossments of Monument to the People's Heroes from 1952 to 1953. Served successively as professor and director of Oil Painting Department of China Central Academy of Fine Arts, committee member of Chinese Artists Association, member of the second national committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Publications are Painting Series in the Route of the Long March, Album of Dong Xiwen’s Paintings, etc.
