Dublin, Ireland

The entrance to Glasnevin Cemetery on the Finglas Road, c. 1906. All burials entered through this gate; this would have been the case on 30 September 1917, when seven funerals took place in the cemetery; Ashe's funeral, relatively late in the afternoon, was the final one. While it is one of the most famous funerals in the history of the cemetery, it was not the only funeral to take place that day. This section explores the lives of the other, more obscure individuals who were laid to rest in Glasnevin on 30 September 1917 (Glasnevin Trust).
