千代が池は島原藩主松平家下屋敷の中にありました。新田義興が矢口の渡しで討たれたことを悲しんだ恋人の千代が、この池に入水したことにその名が由来するといわれ、千代が入水前に衣を掛けた畔の松は「衣掛松」とよばれました。
