Dawn begins to break at Yoshiwara, Edo’s only licensed pleasure quarter. It moved from Nihonbashi to Asakusa in 1659 and was renamed “Shin-Yoshiwara”. Coming out of the just opened gate is a male guest who is covering his face with a cloth.
