Parma, Italy

The emblem of this banknote is the large M, indicating the value in burgundy letters on a beige background with racemes and scrolls, decorated like an ancient illuminated drop cap, full of figures and stately and decorative ornaments. Also on the recto, in the oval on the right, the personification of Italy with a turreted head and surmounted by a star is depicted in filigree. The intermediate frame takes up the burgundy color of the main inscription and is built with complex anthropomorphic and phytomorphic motifs, of grotesque memory. At the top in the center stands the Savoy coat of arms, set in a neoclassical tympanum supported by two winged figures. On the sides there are two cherubs, always winged, that rest on the squares containing the serial number, also repeated at the bottom. At the four corners we find the roundels with the monogram B.I. of the Bank of Italy and the wording of the value in numbers, while at the bottom in the center stands the vermilion red mark bearing an old-fashioned female head, personification of Italy.
