Opera Khovanshchina. Mussorgsky. Sketch of costumes. “Strelets and Clerk.” S. Diaghilev’s company

In 1913 Fedorovsky has been invited by S.P.Dyagilev to design set for “Khovanshchina” opera by M.Musorgsky in context of “Russian seasons”. He worked on it in Paris since March till May. Many costumes created for this performance have been used by Opera Gernier till 1960-th. And now they are kept in the Theatre Costume Centre in Moulins (France).

“Khovanshchina” opera by M.Musorgsky premiered on June 5th at the theatre at Champs Elysees and on June 25th in London, at Drury Lane theatre, conducted by E.A.Cooper, staged by A.A.Sanin
