Ornament, Horse Trapping

A headstall for a horse. Made from strips of red wool strouding decorated with seed beads in a floral pattern, this ornamental headstall would likely have been for ceremonial use, fitting over a plain leather headstall. The design resembles styles used by the Metis people of Canada, but which were also popular among Plains tribes, such as the Sioux during the 19th century.
