The Mexicas excavated in places that they considered being sacred or mythical, like Teotihuacan or Tula, with the idea of recovering architectural elements, sculptures or offerings to place or deposit them in their own places of worship, transmitting thus the strength of the powerful people that preceded them in the past. This was possible due to the deep knowledge that they had of the vestiges of these cities and of the rooted custom of these villages to bury offerings in certain places. This small drop shaped plaque carved with the face of a figure decorated with big circular earflaps and a bead necklace, is a Tolteca relic that the Mexicas buried as offering in Cerro de la Estrella (Huixachtécatl), an important place of worship located at the east of Mexico City, where the people celebrated the New Fire Ceremony every 52 years.
