Ornately carved Medieval pulpit

In Medieval England pulpits were often ornate, and this one with an octagonal shape and elaborately carved canopy, is an excellent example of late Medieval woodwork. It is accessed by a small wooden staircase. The spire shape helped throw the voice of the preacher outwards to the pews, rather than upwards into the high ceiling.
