"In the Bible, the name of Salome don't even show up -- it came to us thanks to the Roman historian Flávio Josefo, and it is not rare that in some sources the character be mistaken with her mother, Herodíades. However, even designating her only as 'daughter of Herodíades', the New Testament make her responsible for the death of John the Baptist, in the Gospel of Matthew (14, 3-11) and Mark (6, 17-29), when she asked the prophet's head on a plate as a reward for him to have danced for her uncle and step-father Herodes, ruler of Judea, during a feast."
