The ostrich stands on an oval base. Its body is made from an ostrich egg. Formerly it held a horseshoe in its beak - the symbol of fortitude and perseverance, but this part is now missing. Certain parts of the surface are punched and engraved. Marked with maker's sign. It is possibly this object that is mentioned in the inventory of Fraknó, made on 8th Jan. 1693: Duo Scyphi ex Ovis Strutionum, duos Strutiones repraesentantes, argento inclusi Ovum Strutionis argento deaurato inclusum cum Strutione argento in superficie (in the inventory two objects were mentioned one of them is identical with the piece described above) OL (National Archives) The Archives of the ducal Esterházy family.
