This is one of the most ancient images that link the European and American continents during the centuries of Spanish colonization. It is said that the original image, now in the Cathedral of Seville, was going to be destroyed by the Muslims, but when they tried to do so, a witness affirmed that “they saw her throw out lightning bolts, that frightened everyone away”.
From that moment on, and due to the notable intervention and miracles of the image during the conquest of Seville, it is not unusual for the image to have a privileged place during the conquest of Mexico, and it has a chapel in the Metropolitan Cathedral in Mexico City.
