Our Lady of Trakai is an iconographic image of Our Lady of Trakai. Because the painting of Our Lady of Trakai is known for its miracles, the Church of the Visitation of Blessed Virgin Mary in Trakai occupies an exceptional place among other churches in Lithuania. Miracles in front of the painting have been recorded there since 1600. In 1718, the painting was crowned with crowns sent by the Pope (this painting was the first to be crowned in Lithuania). The iconography of the painting is similar to the Byzantine style of The Mother of God Guiding Star therefore Our Lady is wearing a veil with the Greek cross on her head. She is holding the Infant who holds the Gospel in his left hand and gives a blessing with his right hand. A rose with three petals in Mary’s hand, which symbolises three parts of the Rosary was added later. The painting was reconfigured in the 16th century: it was reduced making it similar to the so-called St Luke’s painting of Mary.
