The Dystopian version of the Los Angeles Teacher Strike is shown through a student made drawing that was created during the strike. This was organic evidence of how students that attended school really felt during the strike. This drawing, a message that four students clearly state, "Our time was being wasted," shows the frustration of students because they had nothing to do and therefore drew upon their learning to express their frustration despite them being in school. Through this statement I also want to recognize my own privilege in taking this image that students created to make this serigraph. For that reason, I identify each student as the creators of this image and its included content. A picture of myself, their teacher, and the features that they use to identify me, glasses, a scruffy beard, and a receding hairline; all acts of love to capture my essence. Additionally, images of palm trees, classic cars, and streets, which I often reference in class as part of their communal and cultural identity. The background that is shown as an elementary level writing paper also references the lack of resources in our classrooms to show how students often use inadequate materials to complete, create, and reflect their conditions. Details that districts or educator don't often pay attention to when it comes to students and their trajectories.
