Usually forged with uncomplicated craftsmanship, knives used in the war of the Chinese people against Japanese invasion from 1937 to 1945 had simple forms and designs. On the flat blade that broadens towards the tip runs a fuller, while the grip is bound with cotton cloth strips.
In March, 1933, the 29th Contingent of the Chinese Liberation Army launched a surprise attack on the Japanese enemies in areas of Xifengkou and Luowenyu along the Great Wall, achieving a full victory and smashing the mainstream perception that the Japanese troops were invincible. The Big Knife Squad of the 29th Contingent, together with the big knives they used in the battles, has become symbol of the brave resistance of the Chinese people against foreign aggression.
