Amsterdam, Netherlands

Girolamo Muziano excelled in drawing landscapes, earning him the nickname ‘il giovane de’ paesi’ (the young man of the landscapes). Characteristic of his draftmanship is the way in which he depicted rocky outcrops with flowing lines and crosshatching. His drawn landscapes, some of which were also published in print, exerted great influence on artists at home as well as on Netherlandish landscapists, including
Pieter Bruegel and Paul Bril.
