Overoat and waistcoat

China National Silk Museum

China National Silk Museum

These two pieces would have been a court outfit and worn together with matching velvet breeches and a lace jabot at the neck. The textile of the coat is dark taupe cut velvet with magnificent polychrome floral silk embroidery. The choice of ivory lace at the cuffs echoes the whole palette. The ivory silk waistcoat is embroidered with bright silk with a similar floral motif.
