An ox continues its uphill climb on a tilted treadmill. Harnessed, the ox proceeds to walk in place, turning the wheel beneath him with his weight, and the shaft turns. The teeth of the large gearwheel mesh with the teeth of a horizontal shaft which drives another machine by means of other wooden gears. In this case, a gristmill can be seen in the building on the left; Northern Italy, around 1600.
