A Field of Blue Bonnets, Late Afternoon Sunlight

Son of the artist Robert Onderdonk, Julian Onderdonk was a leader of the San Antonio school. He studied at the Art Students League, New York, with William Merritt Chase on Long Island, and with Robert Henri. In 1909 Onderdonk returned to San Antonio where he became known as the founder of the "Bluebonnet School," a designation he disliked. Johnie Griffin Collection
