Paar' Kantha, Bengal

The paar kanthas were quilted and embroidered using borders or paar as a linear design element. The embroidered borders, running parallel along the length of the kantha were often repeated in a mirror image, with the space between the border patterns providing relief and allowing for the dense kantha quilting.
