From the service of 1st Lt. William T. Fitzsimons, Medical Officer's Reserve Corps, U.S. Army Base Hospital #5 Operating with British Hospital #10. Fitzsimons was the first American Officer killed in the War. He and 3 privates were killed in a bombing on September 4, 1917.
