Paco de Lucía was one of the most influential and renowned flamenco guitarists in the world. Born in Algeciras (Cádiz) in 1947, he revolutionised flamenco with his virtuosity and his ability to fuse the genre with other musical styles such as jazz. Pictured here is a very young Paco de Lucía with his brothers and parents.
Paco de Lucía was the son of two survivors: Antonio Sánchez Pecino, a salesman by day and guitarist by night, and Luzía Gomes, a Portuguese immigrant in Algeciras in the 1930s. Together with his brothers Ramón de Algeciras and Pepe de Lucía, Paco received his musical training from his father. In a family environment very close to the flamenco world, he soon came into contact with some of the main figures of flamenco, among whom some of his main influences were Niño Ricardo and Sabicas.
