Paco de Lucía was one of the most influential and renowned flamenco guitarists in the world. Born in Algeciras (Cádiz) in 1947, he revolutionised flamenco with his virtuosity and ability to fuse the genre with other musical styles such as jazz.
In 2004, Paco de Lucía was awarded the Prince of Asturias Prize for the Arts, which recognises a creator "who has transcended frontiers and styles to become a musician of universal dimension". He was the first flamenco artist to receive this award.
