Stefano da Seregno, of the Order of Preachers, "man of great charity and holiness", as described in a 16th century chronicle, founded in 1497 together with three Milanese nobles, Francesco Mantegazza, Roberto Quarterio and Cristofro Remenulfo, the "Confraternity of Santa Corona ", an alms company that engages in the distribution of bread and wine to 72 poor people in the city, choosing Christ's crown of thorns as a symbol. In 1512 the Brotherhood added to its burdens the distribution of medicines to the needy; the pharmacy is financed by the associates.
